MINIMUM WAGE RATE MONTANA: $7.80

Montana's minimum wage is based on inflation as measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI).

Note: the minimum wage is $4.00 per hour: 
If you work for a business not covered by the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) whose gross annual sales are $110,000 or less. However, if this business is producing or moving goods between states or is otherwise covered by the FLSA you must be paid the greater of either the federal minimum wage or Montana's minimum wage.

Full Time Minimum Wage: $312.00 pw

Or $16,224 per year working 40 hours per week and 52 weeks a year.

 

FEDERAL MINIMUM WAGE: $7.25 per hour

Where Federal and state law have different minimum wage rates, the higher standard applies.

OVERTIME PAY MONTANA: $11.70
Overtime pay is the cash compensation for the hours eligible employees work in excess of 40 hours in a workweek (a workweek = 7x24= 168 hours). The overtime pay rate is one and one-half (1.5) times the regular working hour rate of pay.

Exempt from overtime pay:
  • Agricultural workers are generally exempt
  • Executives, outside sales persons, administrative, and other professionals who are paid on a salary basis

Minimum Wage Trainees, Internship: $7.80

Interns or trainees in the for-profit private sector who are qualifying more as employees than as trainees must be paid at least the minimum wage and overtime compensation for more then 40 hours worked in a workweek.
